The Dark Knight

Dark would be correct. This is the darkest of the entire series. Heath Ledger's performance is quite literally brilliant. While Nicholson was good, Ledger captures the absolute insanity that The Joker is meant to represent with none of the cheesy Adam West carry-over. Bale is good, but clearly plays second fiddle to Ledger. The story is a little bit drawn out with a little more philosophy than is needed and the Daredevil rip-off of sonar is a little bit cliched. Some of the filming is too jerky, and while this worked in the fight scenes for Batman Begins, it does not carry through with some of the scenes in this movie. All that being said, this movie is great. I do think it could have ended about 15 minutes earlier and some of the storylines could have been played out a little more, (I know, contradictory considering I think the movie should have been shorter). See this movie. Do not miss this movie. This is the best of the entire Batman series and should be seen by everyone. I heard it's a lot better on IMAX.

1. I saw the movie in both IMAX and regular theatre and there is no comparison the high def picture quality of the IMAX is unparalleled.

2. As a true old school comic book Batman fan (one who believes Batman is the greatest of all the superheroes and is more then willing to debate that point) This movie was fantastic. The Depiction of the Joker was absolute genius. I believe Ledger reached and possibly surpassed Sean Penn (I am Sam) for the most believable character in movie history.

3. Christian Bale was spectacular capturing the inner struggle of Bruce Wayne. He was fantastic in Batman begins and does not disappoint here either. I think with all the hype around this being Ledger's last role his excellent performance is be given a back seat but that's why i'm here to set the record straight.

4. I would love to know which 15 minutes of the movie should be cut out because I had my ass perched on the edge of my seat from start to finish and saw the whole movie as being relevant and necessary. I mean lets be fair they did have two distinct story lines going on in this movie.

5. HOW IS IT NO ONE HAS EVEN MENTIONED ARRON ECKHART??????
He was fantastic simple FANTASTIC. I'll tell you why nobody has mentioned him, it's because the people reviewing this film have NO CLUE about Batman NO CLUE. Eckhart played the role of Harvey Dent to a absolute T in accordance with the original comic book outline. He walked the line between good and evil the whole movie and let the inner rage of Harvey Dent come through every now and then as a taste of what was to come and when it came...so did I.

Quite possibly my favorite movie of all time and in the top 10 of Greatest of all time.

Though, I am ashamed to say this, I must agree with Neil on all accounts. I too am an old school comic book nerd, and was blown away by Heath Ledger, and Arron Eckhart. I was surprised they took the Harvey Dent role as far as they did, as from the trailers, I thought it was merely an introduction to that storyline.
I would not have cut any time off, though I must admit, I RAN from the theater to the bathroom and back during the boat scenes. And as a rule, I run for NO reason. :)
